I'll list here some of the most common uses I've found and seen for heavy tarps, but feel free to test as much as you like because for sure there are many other uses for these tarps. You may use it as protection, shade, cover, canopy, and many others uses that you may find suitable to you.

What Is A Heavy Tarp?

A heavy duty tarp is a strong fabric made out of fiber reinforced Polyethylene material that will withstand the most severe weather conditions that you put it to. This combined with rust resistant grommets make it an excellent and versatile solution to protect your equipment. Waterproof tarps will also be able to provide you an extra protection in case you face severe, pouring rain in the place where you live or where you are camping. There is a wide array of tarps sizes that you may be able to find to buy, but some common ones are: 6' x 8',12' x 16',  10' x 12', 10' x 18', 17' x 14', 12' x 20' and 8' x 10'.

Heavy Duty Tarps For Camping

Camping might be one of my favorite outdoor activities. To make sure we have a great time out there, there are several ways where you could use some tarps and heavy tarps to ensure that you will safe and sound when it comes down to waterproofing and safeguarding all your belongings.

Heavy tarps can be easily used as ground covers to give you an extra layer of protection where you can easily mount your tent. This will help you to properly set your tent and you may also use shade tarps to provide you a nice protection from uv rays. Just make sure you set your shade tarps a bit above your tent in such a way that there is enough ventilation between your tarp and your tent. This way your tent and all the people inside there, will have an easier time going through different weather conditions that may occur.

Using Heavy Tarps As Pool Covering

You might be lucky if you live in an all-year warm region where you can swim in your pool every day. Lucky or just smart enough to choose a place to live like that, but unfortunately for most people like me, this choice is not an option and we have to deal with it the best way as we can. If you have a pool in your house than you CAN use a heavy tarp to protect it, but I wouldn't recommend doing it so. The reason is that even heavy tarps are not designed to fit and accommodate all the problems that winter may bring upon your pool.

Heavy tarpaulins are indeed a great protection tool, but there are not designed for this kind of protection. They won't be able to sustain much of the rain and ice that might accumulate in the middle and make your tarp to collapse. To properly protect your pool, I would recommend using a pool cover that was especially designed for this purpose. These pool covers will be designed with no rip material and will be constructed in such a way that it will support even the hardest winters.

That being said, if you do want to use tarpaulins, then you want to pull it really tight over your pool surface to ensure that it doesn't collapse with the snow and rain weight. But you may find that heavy tarps will cost almost the same as a good pool cover, so you might as well just buy one.
